I really need help with obtaining a credit report?

briennagrace asked:

I am 18, and I do not own a credit card. I got my social security card and bank card stolen. I already got a new bank card and stopped the other one, but as far as my social security…that’s irreplaceable. I tried to get a credit report from freecreditreport.com, but you need a credit card to access it…and I refuse to get one until I am out of college.

I need to find out if I have weird things on my credit report! Because if I do…I need to notify the three major credit bureaus, and put a stop to it before it ruins my life. I’m losing sleep over this. Please help!

You can obtain a free copy from each bureau at annualcreditreport.com. THis doesn’t require a credit card and is a government based website so it’s completely safe. you’re entitled by law to a free copy of your credit report from each company once a year.

By law you are allowed one free credit report annually. You can get a basic credit report at annualcreditreport.com.

You have the right to a free credit report once a year from all three major reporting bureaus. Contact Experian, Equifax and Trans Union and ask for your free yearly report. Chances are there is nothing on there. But it’s a good idea to check.

is a source for you to get a free credit report. You can get one free from each of the credit bureaus: TransUnion, Experian & Equifax but I would recommend you space them out every 3-4 months so you can get a whole year of coverage for free. Equifax tends to have the most complete info, so choose them for the one you need right now and order the others later in the year.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PAY FOR ANYTHING – so be careful when you go to some of these sites – they will take you to all these different web pages to try and sign you up for credit alerts, FICO score, etc. These are all pay services you don’t need – UNLESS you specifically are looking for your FICO score to buy a house, etc. In that case, order it as a one-time deal.

    Good luck!
